Nillumbik locks in waste charges up to $1,275.95 for 2026-27

Nillumbik Shire Council has declared 2026-27 waste management charges, including a separate $177.22 fee for eligible elderly persons and disability units.

Published 30 June 2026Meeting 30 June 2026

Nillumbik Shire Council has declared its 2026-27 waste management charge, with household service options ranging from $567.09 to $1,275.95 per service and a separate $177.22 charge for eligible elderly persons and disability units.

The charge is being used to recover the cost of waste management services in the 2026-27 financial year. For most properties, the amount depends on the service option selected by the property owner.

The listed options include $708.86 for a service with a 120-litre green waste bin, a 240-litre recycling bin and a 120-litre landfill bin. Another option is $567.09 for a 120-litre green waste bin, a 240-litre recycling bin and an 80-litre landfill bin.

Council also set charges of $992.41 for a service with two 120-litre landfill bins, and $779.75 for a service with a 140-litre landfill bin. The top option is $1,275.95 for a service with a 120-litre green waste bin, a 240-litre recycling bin and a 120-litre landfill bin collected weekly.

The charge for elderly persons units, being units occupied by eligible elderly persons or persons with a disability, is $177.22, subject to Council receiving the required declaration.

Council recorded that the charge applies to each rateable land or non-rateable land where an annual service charge may be levied, whether or not the owner or occupier uses the service. It also recorded that the annual service charge is not declared for any land on which no habitable dwelling is erected.

The waste charge was one part of a wider budget decision. Council adopted its 2026-27 annual budget, declared $85,348,959 in rates and charges, and adopted a 68-action annual action plan for the second year of the Council Plan 2025-2029.

Rates and charges will be paid in four equal quarterly instalments due on 30 September 2026, 30 November 2026, 28 February 2027 and 31 May 2027. The chief financial officer was authorised to levy and recover the general rates and annual service charge and to write to people who made budget submissions with the council’s decision and reasons.
