Nillumbik Shire Council has locked in spending for the next financial year, with the 2026-27 budget funding the Diamond Creek Men’s Shed redevelopment, Susan Street Oval drainage works and a 68-action annual plan.

The budget also fixes the amount council intends to raise through rates and the annual service charge at $85,348,959. That total is made up of $68,909,373 from general rates and $16,439,586 from the annual service charge.

Council declared a Waste Management Charge for 2026-27, with service options ranging from $567.09 to $1,275.95 per service. A separate elderly persons/disability unit charge was set at $177.22.

The annual action plan contains 68 key actions and supports the second year of the Council Plan 2025-2029. Council adopted the budget and action plan under the Local Government Act 2020 after considering submissions that were received on the draft budget.

Two tenders were accepted for community projects. Simbuilt Pty Ltd won Contract 2526-013 for the Diamond Creek Men’s Shed Redevelopment - Construction, worth $1,372,135 plus $274,427 contingency excluding GST.

Greenwater Australia was awarded Contract 2526-051 for the Susan Street Oval Irrigation and Drainage Upgrade, worth $387,188.98 plus $77,437.80 contingency excluding GST.

Council also authorised an increase to Contract 2324-022 for the Hurstbridge Men’s Shed Construction and said the variation report would be made public, with confidential attachments retained.

In Diamond Creek, councillors adopted Planning Scheme Amendment C144nill with changes to remove notice and review provisions from Clause 7.0 of Activity Centre Zone Schedule 2 before authorising its submission to the Minister for Planning.

Council said it will write to budget submitters to thank them and advise them of the decision and reasons. The chief financial officer will levy and recover the rates and annual service charge during the 2026-27 financial year.
