Wattle Glen owners face proposed charge for $971,000 Lorimer Road upgrade

Twenty-three Wattle Glen properties are included in a proposed $971,000 special charge scheme to seal and upgrade part of Lorimer Road, after Nillumbik Shire Council began the statutory process for the levy.
The scheme covers Lorimer Road between 29 Lorimer Road and Reynolds Road. Proposed works include a sprayed seal about four metres wide, localised widening for passing opportunities, drainage upgrades and improvements to vehicle crossings.
The charge would apply to properties at 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27 and 29 Lorimer Road, 6 and 8 Pretty Hill Lane, and 170 Kangaroo Ground-Wattle Glen Road.
Council voted unanimously on 28 July to give notice of its intention to declare the special charge and invite submissions and objections. Each liable property owner will receive a copy of the notice.
Owners could pay the estimated amount for their property in a lump sum within 30 days of receiving notice, or through quarterly instalments over 10 years with interest. The proposed scheme would remain in force for 10 years.
A questionnaire dated 1 June 2026 found 65 per cent of property owners supported sealing the road, based on the $971,000 project estimate.
Council said Lorimer Road is outside the top 40 roads on its Unsealed Roads Priority List and is not expected to receive council funding. The northern section of Lorimer Road excluded from the proposed scheme is expected to be reassessed in 2027 if the scheme proceeds.
After submissions and objections are considered, council can declare, vary or abandon the scheme. The special charge has not yet been imposed.
