Cabonne Council has backed an application to the Australian Government’s Disaster Ready Fund Round 4 for a severe weather and flooding warning system for Canowindra, Eugowra and Molong. The decision was made at the council’s ordinary meeting in Molong on 23 June, and the council has proposed a $289,800 co-contribution if the bid succeeds.

The motion says the application will be submitted as soon as practicable. If funding is secured, council will provide the $289,800 contribution.

The project sits alongside a long meeting agenda that also covered council’s 2026/27 planning and budget papers, policy updates, development consents and community funding items.

Council adopted the Delivery Program 2025-2029, revised 2026 version, the Operational Plan 2026-27 including the budget and fees and charges, and the Resourcing Strategy 2026-2036. It also endorsed the draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2026-2030 and adopted the Asset Management Policy.

Councillors also rescinded the Code of Meeting Practice Policy adopted on 16 December 2025 after the Legislative Council disallowed the model code. The previous code was reinstated, with the mandatory provisions of the 2021 Model Code of Meeting Practice, and staff were asked to report back on optional changes for a revised policy.

Other decisions included public exhibition of the draft Rural Tree and Public Safety Management Policy for 28 days, approval of the annual Union Picnic Day for Friday, 30 October 2026, and a $4,000 grant to Grow Yeoval for the 2026 Back to Buckinbah Festival.

Council agreed to take part in the 2026/2027 NSW Rural Doctors Network Bush Bursary Scholarship Scheme and contribute $4,200 from the community facilitation fund. It also resolved to undertake a 12-month textile recycling trial at the Manildra Waste Facility.

Planning approvals covered a meteorological monitoring mast at Lot 1761 DP 1200476, Mullion Range State Forest, a second mast at Lot 24 DP 750415, Canobolas State Forest, a modification at 424 Stapletons Road, Boomey, and a modification at 27 Rodda Drive, Cudal. Council also approved consent for a 35-lot subdivision at Browns Avenue, Canowindra.

The meeting also noted the North Yeoval boundary adjustment and said planning instruments and strategic and operational documents will be updated accordingly.
