$49,000 approved for Eugowra, Molong and Cumnock projects

Community groups and event organisers in Eugowra, Molong and Cumnock have received $49,000 from Cabonne Council, including $25,000 for proposed upgrades at Hunter Caldwell Oval in Molong.

The Eugowra Harness Racing Club will receive $5,000 for its 2026 Canola Cup, while the Molong October Village Market will receive $5,000 under Council’s Event Sponsorship Program.

The Molong Advancement Group was also allocated $25,000 from the 2026 - 27 Village Enhancement Fund for proposed Hunter Caldwell Oval upgrades.

In Cumnock, the Cumnock and District Progress Association will receive $3,000 to extend its existing steel sculpture project in the town’s park area. A further $11,000 will fund replacement of the Crossroads building’s corrugated roof with Colourbond sheeting.

The allocations were approved at Cabonne Council’s ordinary meeting on 22 September. Councillor Peter Batten declared a perceived significant non-pecuniary interest in the Molong funding items because he is president of the Molong Advancement Group, and left the chamber while those matters were considered.

The funding covers two public events, proposed improvements to a sporting facility, a town-park project and work on a community building. The resolutions specify the 2026 Canola Cup and the October market, but do not give construction or event delivery dates beyond those event references.

Council also approved applications for Active Transport Fund grants for a footpath on Euchareena Road between Betts Street and Molong Showground, and a route on Renshaw McGirr Way between St Columba’s Catholic Primary School and Bournewood Road in Yeoval. Council will provide co-contributions from reserves if the applications succeed.

The grants would support walking and cycling access in Molong and Yeoval, while the approved local funding goes directly to events, recreation infrastructure and community facilities in Eugowra, Molong and Cumnock.
