Wanneroo council backs flexible meeting schedule

The Policy Review Committee approved an exemption to its meetings policy, letting committees and working groups meet on the second Monday when needed at the Civic Centre.

The City of Wanneroo’s Policy Review Committee has approved a change to its meetings policy at the Civic Centre, 23 Dundebar Road, Wanneroo, after a 6/1 vote on 16 February 2026. Cr Rowe was the only councillor to vote against the motion.

The committee amended the Ordinary Council Meetings and Forums of Council Policy to add an exemption option. Under the revised rule, committee and working group meetings can be held on the first, second, third and fifth Monday of the month. The existing policy limited them to the first, third or fifth Monday.

The report said the Monday-only rule left too few dates to fit the minimum number of committee and working group meetings required in 2026. Administration told the committee the city needed at least 27 meetings to be scheduled during the year, assuming the Revenue Review Committee met once.

The report also said an additional Audit Risk and Improvement Committee meeting would be needed to meet statutory reporting requirements, along with a fifth CEO Performance Review Committee meeting to satisfy the review requirements for the CEO’s performance.

After removing January and Monday public holidays, the city said 21 Mondays were available under the current policy. The amendment adds 11 more Mondays, taking the total to 32.

The paper said the extra flexibility would let the city spread meetings across the year and reduce the number of Mondays on which two meetings would have to be held. It also said the revised timeline would still leave enough time for agenda distribution and would not compromise statutory obligations or confidentiality requirements.

The committee described the amendment as an administrative change to help it manage committee and working group meetings throughout 2026. It is not a service change or a spending decision.

The same meeting also confirmed the next Policy Review Committee meeting for 6:00pm on Monday, 15 June 2026, at the Civic Centre, 23 Dundebar Road, Wanneroo.
