Wanneroo answers questions on Neerabup recovery precinct approvals
City officers told councillors the Neerabup Resource Recovery Precinct is not covered by Amendment No. 202, no MRS amendment is being pursued, and DPLH advice was sought on public works.
City of Wanneroo officers used Tuesday night’s ordinary council meeting to answer public questions about the Neerabup Resource Recovery Precinct, Amendment No. 202, ASP 17 and Lot 600 at Wattyl Rd and Wattle Avenue. Administration said the amendments were unrelated to the NRRP and that no Metropolitan Region Scheme amendment is being pursued.
The minutes also record the Director Planning and Sustainability saying the City is a permit authority under the Building Act 2011 and is responsible for administering and enforcing the Act within its district. The same response said the City regularly accepts and investigates complaints where there is an allegation that building work does not match a development approval or building permit.
On the NRRP itself, administration said the project is separate from the planning amendments raised in the chamber. It also said public works advice was sought from the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.
The questions sat alongside a petition update seeking delay of the Neerabup Resource Recovery Precinct pending independent assessments and public release of findings. The minutes say the City will assess resident signatures and petition numbers during petition assessment.
The meeting also heard questions on Western Power’s Clean Energy Link through East Wanneroo, the proposed universal access fishing platform at Quinns Rocks, and the future of Addison Park in Merriwa.
For residents near Neerabup and Lot 600, the recorded answers drew a clear line between the precinct and other planning amendments already before the City. The extract does not record any final council decision on rezoning or development approval for the precinct.
The same meeting also approved Cr Coetzee to attend electronically. That was the only recorded council decision in the extract provided.
The Neerabup answers were the clearest planning signal of the night. The City said the precinct is not covered by Amendment No. 202, no MRS change is being pursued, and DPLH advice was sought.
