Wanneroo council receives 109-signature petition for Arduaine Park upgrades
City of Wanneroo councillors received a petition for improved amenities at Arduaine Park, while residents pressed the meeting on waste, dog off-leash areas and council livestreaming.
City of Wanneroo councillors received a petition for improved amenities at Arduaine Park at Tuesday night’s ordinary council meeting in Wanneroo. The petition carried 109 signatures and was lodged as council dealt with a long public question period.
The petition was listed as PT01-02/26, under the title “Install improved amenities at Arduaine Park”. The minutes do not detail the requested works, but the item was recorded among new petitions received. A separate petition on angled parking at Yanchep Lagoon was also listed.
Public questions dominated much of the meeting. Residents asked about the Neerabup Resource Recovery Precinct, including FOGO processing, waste-to-energy proposals, groundwater impacts and links with Mindarie Regional Council. Responses repeatedly noted that MRC is an independent local government entity and that some matters should be taken to MRC or DWER.
Dogs on leads were another focal point. Public questions and statements centred on a councillor motion about dog access, with discussion about dog attack data, off-leash parks and fenced dog exercise areas. Residents from Merriwa, Carramar and Tapping raised concerns during the question time.
The meeting also dealt with governance and access issues. Administration said the AGM livestream was stopped after a request from a councillor under procedure, and that the gap between policy and procedure has since been corrected so next year’s AGM will be livestreamed.
General Counsel also advised that a councillor who declares an impartiality interest must remain in the room and take part in debate and decision-making. The clarification came during questions about conflict-of-interest procedure.
Council also granted leave of absence to Cr Bedworth for 3 March to 31 March 2026, Cr Wright for 11 May to 9 June 2026, Cr Rowe for 29 June to 3 August 2026 and Cr Berry for 3 August to 9 October 2026.
For Arduaine Park petitioners, the submission is now on council’s books for future consideration. The minutes do not name a report date.
The meeting was at the Council Chambers, Level 1, Civic Centre, 23 Dundebar Road, with Mayor Aitken presiding.
