Banksia Grove laneway blockages must be reported while they happen
Wanneroo officers can act when vehicles obstruct the Grandis Boulevard laneway, but permanent parking restrictions were not supported at this stage.
Residents affected by vehicles blocking the Grandis Boulevard laneway in Banksia Grove have been urged to report obstructions while they are happening so City of Wanneroo officers can respond.
The issue was raised by residents near 245 Grandis Boulevard, where vehicles have obstructed access to garages and prevented waste collection. The laneway has also experienced congestion during school drop-off and pick-up times, affecting access for residents, service vehicles and emergency vehicles.
Officers can act when they observe a vehicle obstructing access or egress, or stopping across a driveway. Reports made after a vehicle has left do not provide the same opportunity for immediate action.
Permanent parking restrictions for the laneway were not supported at this stage. Ongoing patrols at one location were also not considered a sustainable long-term response.
The current arrangement is being considered alongside the City’s review of the Parking Local Law 2015. The proposed replacement law is intended to strengthen enforcement where vehicles obstruct laneways and accessways, including routes needed by residents, waste collection services and emergency vehicles.
A new local law is anticipated to commence in January 2027, subject to legislative and statutory processes. Until then, enforcement at the Grandis Boulevard laneway remains dependent on an officer observing a specific obstruction.
Residents who see a vehicle blocking access or stopping across a driveway should contact the City while the obstruction is occurring.
