180-room short-stay project approved for Ocean Street, Maroochydore
Sunshine Coast Council has approved a development with 180 short-term accommodation rooms, 30 units and a food-and-drink outlet at 15 and 19 Ocean Street in an 8 - 1 vote.
A 180-room short-term accommodation and residential development at 15 and 19 Ocean Street, Maroochydore, has been approved by Sunshine Coast Council in an 8 - 1 vote.
The project includes 30 multiple-dwelling units and a food-and-drink outlet, along with operational works for stormwater, earthworks, landscaping, streetscape work, access and parking. The development permit is subject to conditions.
Nine councillors supported the application: Mayor Rosanna Natoli, Cr John Broderick, Cr Terry Landsberg, Cr Terry Burns, Cr Jared Natoli, Cr Christian Dickson, Cr Ted Bunnag, Cr Maria Suarez and Cr David Law. Cr Emma Hungerford voted against it.
The application sought an other change to an existing development permit. Council also noted that future requests for a negotiated decision notice, and changes that would not materially affect the original outcome, can be determined by delegated council officers.
The approval brings a large new short-stay accommodation, housing and food-and-drink project to central Maroochydore. Construction and the approved access, parking, traffic and streetscape works will affect nearby residents and businesses subject to the permit conditions.
Councillors also referred a separate petition opposing planning applications for the reconfiguration and commercial development of land at 41, 95 and 97 Walli Mountain Road, Kenilworth, to the chief executive officer for a report back to council.
The council referred another petition, seeking a review of Cotton Tree Tourist Park standards and costs, to the chief executive officer to determine appropriate action.
Other decisions included authorising the chief executive officer to negotiate and finalise the acquisition of an identified strategic property in Palmview. The site and contract price may be released after negotiations conclude and ownership is registered.
Council also approved an exception to tender or auction requirements to renew the existing tenant’s lease over part of 148 Mountain View Road, Maleny. Lease details are to be released after the lease commences.
