Shoalhaven approves $125,000 for community projects
The 2026/2027 allocations include $8,000 for youth driver education, $6,000 for community lunches and $5,000 grants for three local community projects.
Shoalhaven City Council has approved $125,000 in 2026/2027 Community Wellbeing Grants, funding projects from youth driver education and food support to community lunches, arts programs and local festivals.
The largest allocation is $8,000 for the Milton Ulladulla Youth Driver Education Program. Safe Waters Community Care received $6,000 for its Community Lunch Program, while ORACLE East Coast Support, the Lions Club of Bomaderry Nowra and Noah’s Inclusion Services each received $5,000 for community projects.
The Ulladulla and Districts Community Resources Centre received $3,000 for its Food Support Program. Sanctuary Point Community Pride received $2,350 for the Spring Into Sanctuary Point fair, and Tabourie Lake Museum received $220 for two First Nations picture boards.
Bay and Basin Bush Potters received $4,000 for Grounded: A Clay and Connection Project. Other allocations include $2,000 for Music Shoalhaven’s concert series, $2,000 for the Shoalhaven Lydian Singers’ 50th Anniversary Choral Workshop and $2,500 for the Apex Club of Milton Ulladulla’s Community Kindness Initiative.
The Shoalhaven Domestic and Family Violence Committee, auspiced by South Coast and Country Community Law, received $1,584 for an awareness project. Grants were also approved for Vincentia Connections, Red Head Villages Association, City of Shoalhaven Eisteddfod, Tomerong School of Arts, Growing Together South Coast, Marine Rescue Sussex Inlet, Shoalhaven Folk Club and Love Culburra Beach Festival.
The program includes projects in Nowra, Ulladulla, Milton Ulladulla, Sanctuary Point, Sussex Inlet, Kangaroo Valley and Culburra Beach. Council also directed staff to advise applicants whose applications were unsuccessful.
Paul Fraser addressed councillors on behalf of the Albatross Musical Theatre Company against the recommendation. Several councillors declared less than significant non-pecuniary interests because they knew applicants or groups, but remained in the room and took part in the discussion and vote.
