Decision on Grahams Dip Road motion pushed to Scenic Rim’s next meeting

A bid to repeal Scenic Rim Regional Council’s December resolution on upgrading Grahams Dip Road at Biddaddaba was deferred, delaying any fresh assessment and cost review.

Scenic Rim Regional Council has delayed a decision on the future handling of Grahams Dip Road, with councillors deferring a notice of motion tied to the road’s proposed upgrade at Biddaddaba.

At its 28 January ordinary meeting, the council was considering a motion from Cr Jennifer Sanders to repeal a 10 December 2025 resolution about upgrading the road and instead send the matter back to officers for evaluation under council’s Road Network Policy and for an accurate cost estimate for the 2026-27 budget process.

The minutes show the original December resolution had directed council to assess Grahams Dip Road in 2025-26, determine works and costs to upgrade about 1,000 metres to a 5D standard, provide funding in the 2026-27 budget, fund ongoing maintenance in future budgets, and apply to the Department of Transport and Main Roads about any intersection treatments needed for Beaudesert-Nerang Road.

Rather than deciding that repeal motion on Wednesday, Mayor Tom Sharp moved a procedural motion to defer item 11.3 to the next ordinary meeting. That procedural motion was carried unanimously.

For residents and road users in the Biddaddaba area, the immediate effect is that no new position was settled at this meeting on whether the December road upgrade resolution should stand or be replaced by a policy-based reassessment and revised costing process.

The underlying road question remains unresolved. Council did not decide at this meeting whether Grahams Dip Road should proceed under the December resolution or be reconsidered through a fresh officer evaluation.

The next step recorded in the minutes is for the deferred Grahams Dip Road motion to return to the next ordinary meeting.
