Redland council sends Sunrise Court footpath petition to CEO
Redland City Council referred a Mount Cotton petition for a concrete footpath at the Sunrise Court easement to the chief executive officer after a 9-0 vote.
Redland City Council has referred a Division 6 petition calling for a concrete footpath at the Sunrise Court easement in Mount Cotton to chief executive officer Louise Rusan for consideration, after a unanimous 9-0 vote at Wednesday’s general meeting in Cleveland.
Cr Shane Rendalls moved the motion and Cr Lance Hewlett seconded it. The council said the petition was of an operational nature and received it before being passed on to the CEO.
The same meeting also dealt with a separate Division 2 petition about prioritising works at Cleveland Aquatic Centre and replacing the children’s slide. That petition was also received and referred to the chief executive officer for consideration.
The Sunrise Court request was one of several local items before councillors on 17 June 2026 at the Council Chambers, 91-93 Bloomfield Street, Cleveland. The meeting also took up wider planning and reporting items covering Mount Cotton, Cleveland, Capalaba and other parts of Redlands.
Later in the meeting, councillors resolved to authorise Acting Mayor Julie Talty to write to the Deputy Premier supporting, in principle, investigation of the general Mount Cotton area for inclusion in the Urban Footprint, subject to conditions. Those conditions included employment, tourism, sport and recreation uses only, no suburban-scale residential development, and developer-funded infrastructure.
For Mount Cotton residents, the footpath petition now sits with council administration for consideration. The minutes do not say whether the footpath will be built or when any work might start.
The meeting also noted the May 2026 monthly financial position, results and ratios, and the Queensland Audit Office 2026 Interim Report. Those items were noted rather than debated in detail.
The council also dealt with matters outstanding from previous meetings, including the Birkdale Community Precinct, the Cleveland Town Centre Revitalisation Project update, potential property disposals in Capalaba and intermittent water pressure concerns in parts of Mount Cotton.
