Randwick budget, fee trial and Stables report progress at council meeting
Randwick City Council has placed its draft 2026-27 budget on public exhibition, continued a fee-waiver trial for eligible local groups and asked for a June report on repair options for Randwick Stables.
Randwick City Council has endorsed its draft 2026-27 Operational Plan and Budget for public exhibition, with residents to get a say before final adoption. The decision was made at the council’s ordinary meeting on 28 April 2026 in Randwick.
The meeting also kept in place a 12-month trial waiving some venue hire fees for eligible local community groups, up to $25,000. Council separately waived $2,166.50 in Prince Henry Centre fees for a free menopause event run by Women’s Well Eastern Suburbs.
Council approved $3,052 in sponsorship for the Randwick TAFE Screen and Media students’ 2026 film screening and awards night. It also donated plants worth $300 to Coogee Public School for its Mother’s Day stall, plants worth $500 to Clovelly Childcare Centre for its annual green fair, $1,750 to Randwick High School for its production of London Calling at NIDA, and $1,060 to Botany Randwick Rotary Club for its Dog Fun Day at Arthur Byrne Reserve.
In Kingsford, councillors endorsed a voluntary planning agreement for 16-18 Rainbow Street. Council also backed a draft submission to Transport for NSW on micromobility sharing scheme regulatory reform.
A report on parking at the Heffron Centre carpark found no change was needed, with existing arrangements left as they are after consultation and an occupancy survey.
South Coogee residents will be asked about a proposed fenced partial off-leash dog area at Latham Park Lower, Henning Avenue. Council did not support Gollan Park as an off-leash dog location, citing site-specific constraints and potential amenity impacts.
Council adopted the Plan of Management for Community Land - Council Owned and Crown Reserves and will send the final version to Crown Lands. It also approved draft Public Art Guidelines for public exhibition and endorsed the draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2026-2030 for exhibition, with changes including accessible communication standards, annual reporting and continued budget and employment improvements.
Urgent business at Coogee Beach drew a separate resolution. Council noted a publicly advertised free event on 3 May 2026 had no formal approval, booking or appropriate insurance bond, and asked the general manager to investigate and monitor for environmental harm or community concern. The mayor was asked to seek help from the NSW Premier, NSW Minister for Police and NSW Attorney General, and NSW Police were to be notified.
Councillors also unanimously condemned booing of First Nations Elders at ANZAC Day services and reaffirmed Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country at commemorations.
Council further requested a June 2026 report on repair options and costs for Randwick Stables.
