Purple Hearts disability football program wins four-year Randwick funding deal
Randwick City Council will provide $1,500 in 2026/27, with 5 per cent annual indexation, as schools and community events also receive support.
Randwick’s free Purple Hearts disability football program will receive four years of council funding, starting with $1,500 in 2026/27 and rising by 5 per cent a year for the rest of the agreement.
Established by Randwick City Football Club in 2010, Purple Hearts provides children, young people and adults with disability access to training, competition and club participation. Participants are not charged fees. The program relies on fundraising, sponsorship and community support for uniforms, equipment, training facilities and competition costs.
The funding will come from the Mayor’s Contingency Fund. Council has authorised the General Manager to sign the agreement and asked its communications manager to identify opportunities to promote the program.
The funding resolution noted that many participants rely on income support or have limited financial means. Previous council support included $500 in March 2021, $500 in September 2022 and $1,000 in July of each year from 2023 to 2025.
Council also approved $3,000 for Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School in Kensington. The money will help cover a traffic management plan needed for the temporary closure of Kensington Road during the school’s community Christmas Fair and fundraiser on 14 November 2026.
The school’s Parents and Friends Group will receive $500 worth of plants from the council nursery for its community school fair. Council also approved a $1,700 table purchase at the Autism Mates 2026 Gala Fundraiser.
A fee waiver valued at $5,049 was approved for Harmony Indonesia 2026, held by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia Sydney at Arthur Byrne Reserve on 22 August 2026. Separately, six school sustainability projects will share $25,000 during 2026/27.
The Purple Hearts agreement gives the program longer-term funding certainty, while the other approvals support school activities, fundraising and cultural events across the Randwick local government area.
