Orange backs pole-mounted EV charger trial with EV-only parking spaces

Orange City Council has authorised its chief executive to negotiate with EVX on a trial of pole-mounted electric vehicle chargers at recommended sites, with line marking and signs for EV-only bays.

Published 11 May 2026Meeting 7 April 2026

Orange City Council has approved the next step for a trial of pole-mounted electric vehicle chargers in Orange, including changes to some parking spaces so they are reserved for EV charging.

At its 7 April meeting, council delegated authority to the Chief Executive Officer to negotiate an agreement with EVX for installation of the chargers at recommended locations identified in the report. The resolution also authorised the line marking and signage needed to designate associated EV-only parking areas.

For residents, the practical change is that new public charging infrastructure could appear at selected on-street locations and some existing spaces would be marked for electric vehicles only while charging. One of the locations referenced during the meeting was Moulder Street.

The minutes show councillors did not publicly settle consultation details for that site during the meeting. Instead, Cr F Kinghorne asked for information on consultation undertaken for the Moulder Street location, and that question was taken on notice.

The charger item was carried unanimously as resolution 26/168. The minutes record no councillors voting against it.

The next step is for the Chief Executive Officer to negotiate the agreement with EVX and, if that proceeds, arrange the necessary signage and line marking for the EV-only spaces. Further information on consultation for the Moulder Street location is expected through the response to the question taken on notice.
