Nillumbik backs climate and wildlife motions for MAV state meeting
Nillumbik Shire Council endorsed two motions for the Municipal Association of Victoria state council meeting, one on climate reporting and one seeking funding to cut wildlife-vehicle collisions.
Nillumbik Shire Council has backed two motions for the Municipal Association of Victoria’s State Council meeting on 29 May 2026, with councillors endorsing a push for a state framework for local government climate performance reporting and funding to trial ways to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions.
The motions were passed at the council meeting in Greensborough on 24 March 2026. The chamber at 32 Civic Drive also dealt with the draft Revenue and Rating Plan 2026-2029, the draft Budget 2026-2027, waste collection contracts and delegation instruments.
On the MAV item, council endorsed a request for a state framework for climate performance reporting across local government. It also supported a bid for funding to investigate and trial measures aimed at reducing collisions between wildlife and vehicles.
The minutes record the endorsement as unanimous.
Council also noted minutes from its arts and culture, positive ageing, health and wellbeing and Youth Council advisory committees. Those reports were listed among the formal items considered at the meeting.
Elsewhere, councillors adopted the draft Budget 2026-2027. The draft proposes a 2.75% rate rise and a 4.26% increase in the waste management standard charge.
Council also endorsed the draft Revenue and Rating Plan 2026-2029, which introduces two new differential rate categories for Sustainable Agriculture Land and Trust for Nature Land.
The meeting also approved a new lease and licence with Eltham Redbacks Football Club for 9.5 years at Eltham North Reserve, awarded the Bourchiers Road Special Charge Scheme construction contract for works from 1 April 2026 to 28 August 2026, and approved a Diamond Creek Outdoor Pool heating plant upgrade contract running from 1 April 2026 to 16 October 2026.
The Bourchiers Road and pool contracts were among a cluster of infrastructure and service decisions that also included a booked kerbside hard and green waste collection contract.
Council later closed the meeting to the public to consider the CM.029/26 Car Parks for Commuters Project - Eltham Station Car Park on legal privilege grounds. No public decision detail was released in open session.
