Camdenville Park to get extra bin and more cleaning after overflow and vermin reports
Inner West Council will increase cleaning at the St Peters park, investigate vermin reports and urgently assess drainage at Peter Bulger Wetlands.
Camdenville Park in St Peters will get an extra public bin and more frequent cleaning after reports that rubbish bins regularly fill by Friday evenings and remain unattended until early the following week.
Inner West Council approved the measures unanimously on Tuesday, with the new bin to be installed near the park’s barbecue and playground facilities. More frequent bin servicing and cleaning will be funded from existing park maintenance budgets.
Council will investigate reports of increased vermin activity between the park and neighbouring homes, including possible changes to waste collection, monitoring and mitigation.
It will also urgently assess and fix drainage at Peter Bulger Wetlands in response to reports of odour and algae growth. Council will work with Transport for NSW to install a gross pollutant trap to reduce litter flowing into the wetland basin.
The action follows the $8.2 million Camdenville Park upgrade, which added a playground, barbecue and picnic facilities, BMX pump tracks, shared paths, lighting and amenities. The project also established the Peter Bulger Wetlands, installed a Blue Plaque recognising the site as the first Koori Knockout venue and created the Trans Solidarity Crossing.
Council will review parking on streets bordering the park to balance the needs of park and oval users with those of nearby residents. It will add signs encouraging cyclists to use the roadway or paths through the park instead of the narrow footpath in front of homes on May Street.
Council will also consider ways to improve awareness of the site’s historic brickworks and release to local residents the results of a noise study previously undertaken by WestConnex.
A report to the November 2026 Council meeting will outline proposed Stage 2 works for Peter Bulger Wetlands, indicative timelines and any planned community consultation. It will also include actions to address the maintenance issues identified at the park and wetlands.
