Kogarah residents to get 28 days to comment on strategic centre master plan
Kogarah residents and businesses will have at least 28 days to comment on the Draft Kogarah Strategic Centre Master Plan after a unanimous committee recommendation.
Kogarah residents and businesses will have at least 28 days to comment on a proposed master plan for the strategic centre after the Georges River Council Environment and Planning Committee unanimously recommended putting it on public exhibition.
The Draft Kogarah Strategic Centre Master Plan and three associated studies were endorsed for exhibition at the committee’s 13 July meeting. The committee also recommended allowing the Director Environment and Planning to make minor editorial amendments before the exhibition begins.
The plan is not final. After the exhibition, Council is to receive a report outlining submissions and recommending any amendments to the draft in response to the feedback received.
The exhibition gives residents and businesses a formal opportunity to comment on proposed future planning and development in Kogarah before the plan is considered further.
The committee also unanimously recommended exhibiting the draft Georges River Commercial Centres Strategy, Part 2 Future Directions, for at least 28 days. The detailed proposals in that strategy and the Kogarah master plan were not included in the recommendation.
Separately, the committee recommended preparing a Georges River Active Transport Plan covering priority walking and cycling corridors, missing links and connections between schools, open spaces and other key destinations. The plan is also intended to establish a coordinated, staged implementation and funding framework.
Council staff were authorised to seek external grant funding for the Active Transport Plan. If grants are not secured, staff can seek up to $150,000 in internal funding through a future quarterly review process in 2027. Funding has not been finally allocated.
The committee also unanimously recommended adopting the Jubilee Stadium Precinct Master Plan and Plan of Management. The documents must be referred to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Crown Lands for the Minister’s consent. If adopted and approved, the new plan of management will revoke the existing Kogarah Park Community Land Plan of Management (2005) when it commences.
