Mortdale Centre planning decision delayed until 24 August

Mortdale residents and property owners will have to wait until 24 August for Georges River Council to consider the Mortdale Centre Planning Proposal’s response to a state adequacy assessment and its future strategic direction.

The Environment and Planning Committee voted eight to four on 10 August to defer the item to the 24 August 2026 Ordinary Council Meeting. Councillors Elaina Anzellotti, Gerard Hayes, Leon Pun and Ben Wang voted against the deferral.

The item concerns the Mortdale Centre Planning Proposal and a response to the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure’s adequacy assessment. It also covers the centre’s future strategic direction. Council has not yet decided either matter.

Councillor Christina Jamieson declared a non-significant, non-pecuniary interest because she owns property in the Mortdale Masterplan Area. She remained in the meeting and took part in considering the item.

The proposal will next be considered at the scheduled 24 August meeting. The committee did not record a further timetable or an outcome for the planning proposal.

The Mortdale deferral was one of several planning decisions made by the committee. It endorsed the Draft Beverly Hills Master Plan and associated studies for public exhibition for at least 28 days, with a further report required on submissions and any proposed amendments.

The committee also resolved to make a submission to the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on the Beverly Hills Town Centre (West) State-Assessed Rezoning Proposal. It received a report on potential impacts of Housing Delivery Authority proposals and subsequent State Significant Developments on the Georges River local government area.

The committee noted the Development and Building Team Functions and Services Metrics Report for April to June 2026. No specific changes to development or building services were recorded in that item.
