Sports-field users across the Georges River Council area are in line for a proposed lighting program after the Assets and Infrastructure Committee unanimously endorsed its inclusion in the Four-Year Capital Works Program, funded through the adopted Sports Field Lighting Upgrades budget.

Councillors also received and noted the results of a Lux Lighting Prioritisation Matrix for turf sports fields at the committee’s 13 July meeting.

The resolution does not name the sports fields involved or state the budget’s value. It also does not set construction dates or describe the work planned at individual sites.

The proposed works will be included in council’s four-year capital planning using the existing budget allocation. The resolution does not state that construction has started.

The committee also received and noted the July Capital Projects Update, which covers council’s broader capital works pipeline.

The lighting program is relevant to sports-field users and nearby residents because improvements to field lighting affect how council facilities are used and operated. The locations and neighbourhoods involved remain unspecified.

The lighting proposal was one of several infrastructure matters considered by the committee. Transport decisions included further engineering investigations for Park Road, Carlton, Peakhurst Park and the Penshurst station area, with any works to return to the Local Transport Forum before implementation.

The committee also supported proposed intersection changes in Mortdale and traffic-calming works on Lynwood Street and Waratah Street, Blakehurst. A request for pedestrian safety fencing on Railway Parade at Lily Street and Elizabeth Street, Allawah, was not supported.

The next step for the lighting proposal is its inclusion in the Four-Year Capital Works Program using the adopted Sports Field Lighting Upgrades budget. The affected fields, project costs and construction schedule will need to be identified before individual works are clear.
