Cudal and Cargo bridge projects take new path after tenders rejected

Cabonne Council has rejected all tenders for the design and construction of traffic bridges on Edward Street, Cudal, and Baghdad Road, Cargo, and authorised negotiations with DEARNU Constructions Pty Ltd.
The decision covers Contract 1860163. The General Manager can enter into a contract with DEARNU, identified as the preferred tenderer, after negotiations have concluded.
Council said the negotiations are intended to produce a construction price that reflects the available project budget. The budget amount, rejected tender prices, number of tenders received and construction timetable were not disclosed.
The tenders were rejected under section 178(1b) of the NSW Local Government Regulation 2021. The authority to negotiate with DEARNU was granted under section 178(3e).
For contractors, engineering firms, local businesses and road users, the resolution changes the procurement path for two traffic bridge projects. Council will not proceed with the existing tenders. Instead, it will negotiate directly with DEARNU before deciding whether to enter into the contract.
No final contract value or construction start date was announced.
The traffic bridge resolution was separate from council’s award of Contract 1860158 for the design and construction of pedestrian swinging bridges in Manildra and Cudal. That contract went to Trustees of Central Industries.
The next step is for Cabonne Council and DEARNU Constructions to negotiate the traffic bridge contract. Any contract will follow the negotiations and is to reflect the available project budget.
