Burwood residents will have an updated online guide to accessing information held by Burwood Council after councillors unanimously approved its publication on the council website.

The revised Agency Information Guide was adopted under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009, known as GIPAA. It provides information about Burwood Council and explains how the community can access information held by the council.

Sections 20 and 22 of the Act require Council to publish an Agency Information Guide at least once every 12 months. The guide is part of Council’s public information obligations and is intended to outline how information can be accessed.

All seven councillors voted for the resolution at the ordinary Council meeting on 28 July 2026. Those councillors were Mayor John Faker, Deputy Mayor George Mannah, Sukirti Bhatta, Pascale Esber, David Hull, De Yi Wu-Coshott and Alex Yang.

The resolution authorises the General Manager to make minor changes required by the Information and Privacy Commission before the guide is published.

Council’s resolution did not specify a publication date beyond requiring the guide to be published on its website after any required changes are made.

The information guide was one of several policy matters considered at the meeting. Council also placed a draft Code of Meeting Practice on public exhibition for 42 days and invited submissions from the public.

If submissions are received on the draft meeting code, the General Manager must report the outcome to Council. If no submissions are received, Council’s resolution provides for the draft code to be adopted and the previous code, adopted on 23 September 2025, to be revoked.

Council also placed the proposed Civic Recognition, Condolences and Small Donations Policy on public exhibition for 28 days. Residents and community organisations can comment on that proposal before Council considers its next steps.

The revised Agency Information Guide will give the community an updated explanation of how to access information held by Burwood Council.
