Burwood residents get 28 days to comment on civic recognition and donations policy
Burwood residents and community organisations can comment for 28 days on proposed rules covering civic recognition, condolences and small donations before Council considers final adoption.
Burwood residents and community organisations will have 28 days to comment on a proposed policy covering civic recognition, condolence arrangements and small donations.
Burwood Council voted unanimously to place the Civic Recognition, Condolences and Small Donations Policy on public exhibition following a scheduled review of the policy adopted on 28 June 2022.
The proposal covers the Council’s arrangements for recognising individual and organisational community contributions, condolence activity and small donations. Community feedback will be accepted during the 28-day exhibition period.
If submissions are received, General Manager Tommaso Briscese must report the outcome to the next ordinary Council meeting after the exhibition concludes. That report will give councillors the opportunity to consider the feedback before deciding whether to adopt the proposed policy.
If no submissions are received, Council can adopt the policy and revoke the version adopted in 2022. The resolution does not specify changes to individual donation amounts, eligibility rules or recognition arrangements.
A separate report received and noted by Council listed discretionary grants and gifts provided under the existing policy between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026. The report covered the period from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026.
The policy proposal sits within Council’s objectives for supporting social inclusion, community connections and recognition of individual and organisational contributions. The report also identified transparency and accountability in decision-making as an objective for the policy review.
Mayor John Faker and councillors George Mannah, Pascale Esber, David Hull, Sukirti Bhatta, De Yi Wu-Coshott and Alex Yang supported the public exhibition, with no votes against.
Submissions must be made during the 28-day exhibition period. If feedback is received, the policy will return to the next ordinary Council meeting after the exhibition for consideration.
