Ballina council backs Tintenbar lot size change

Ballina Shire Council endorsed Planning Proposal BSCPP 25/004 for 86 Foresters Way and 38 Old Tintenbar Road, Tintenbar, and will finalise it under delegated authority.

Ballina Shire Council has endorsed Planning Proposal BSCPP 25/004 for 86 Foresters Way and 38 Old Tintenbar Road, Tintenbar, after a unanimous vote at its ordinary meeting on 26 March 2026.

Councillors agreed to amend the BLEP 2012 lot size map for the two addresses and to finalise the proposal under delegated plan making authority.

The meeting also adopted the Ballina Shire Local Strategic Planning Statement 2025-2046 and addendum, with a series of amendments covering Alstonville, Newrybar, Ballina Hospital precinct planning, rural land use principles and follow-up work on North Kinvara, Cumbalum and West Lennox Palms.

Among the changes, council added a new action to identify options for additional employment land to meet projected demand. It also included a review of the Alstonville Strategic Plan in the 2026/27 to 2029/30 Delivery Program and Operational Plan, with the review identified for 2027/28.

Council asked for a further report at the April 2026 ordinary meeting on Precinct B North Kinvara, Precinct C Cumbalum and West Lennox Palms, Lennox Head, before the strategic planning statement is finalised.

Residents will get at least 28 days to comment on draft Development Control Plan Chapter 2C Biodiversity and Habitat Management after council endorsed it for public exhibition.

Council also adopted an updated Urban Vegetation on Public Land Policy.

On security, councillors awarded the CCTV infrastructure supply and installation contract to Dash Group Australia for $493,946.85 excluding GST. They also asked for a further report after liaison with NSW Police on additional priority sites, including Lennox Head, Shaws Bay, Burns Point Ferry Road, Alstonville and Wollongbar.

The meeting confirmed several community land leases, licences and hire agreements, including Ballina Equestrian Grounds, CWA Hall, Newrybar Hall, Quays Reserve Clubhouse, Wollongbar Sports Fields, Lennox Head Combined Sports Association and Ballina River Street Preschool. Council also approved two hire agreements for Wollongbar Community Hall.

Councillors supported Option 2 for Australia Day themed flags in River Street, Ballina, and additional community event banner signage, subject to a further report to the 13 April 2026 Finance and Facilities Committee and funding in the 2026/27 budget.
