Ballina committee seeks more Raynor Lane safety education in Lennox Head
Ballina Shire Council’s B Ward Committee has asked staff to advise whether the Road Safety Officer can start education on the Raynor Lane shared zone, while Lennox Alive edges towards its first event in August.
Ballina Shire Council’s B Ward Committee met in Ballina on 18 May and asked staff to advise whether the Road Safety Officer can start an education program for the Raynor Lane shared zone in Lennox Head.
The discussion focused on existing shared zone signage, pedestrian safety and confusion caused by changes in pavement type. Narissa Phelps, from the Lennox Head Residents Association, said the signage was compliant but that drivers may think the shared zone stops because there is no sign at the start of the right-hand turn in the lane.
Cr Kiri Dicker asked whether there was capacity to step up education and awareness in the community about the shared zone. The committee’s action asked Council to advise whether the Road Safety Officer is able to initiate an education program relating to the shared zone in Lennox Head.
A post-meeting note said Council already provides regular reminders about the Lennox Head shared zone through Community Connect and on social media. It also said future media will include specific information on the full operational extent of the zone.
The shared zone issue has been raised before. At the committee’s 16 March 2026 meeting, a request for additional shared zone signage at the right-hand turn near Ross Park was referred to engineering staff for review.
The 18 May minutes do not confirm any new sign, road work or other infrastructure change for Raynor Lane. They do show the committee pushing for a stronger education response around the route, which runs through Lennox Head.
The meeting also noted that Lennox Alive, the monthly cultural events program, is progressing towards its first event in August.
The list of council documents available for public comment was also noted.
The next B Ward Committee meeting is scheduled for 20 July 2026 at 4.30pm.
