Bondi Junction plan stays after 3,000-home rescission bid fails
The rejected alternative would have cut targeted additional dwellings from 3,000 to 2,400 and changed proposed height limits and public space in Oxford Street Mall.
Waverley Council has rejected a bid to overturn the Bondi Junction Vision and Master Plan, leaving its targeted 3,000 additional dwellings in place rather than the 2,400 proposed by the alternative motion.
The rescission motion sought to overturn resolution CM/7.8/26.07, which adopted the plan on 21 July. It was lost on a recorded division, with the vote numbers not specified.
The alternative proposal would also have lowered height limits in Oxford Street Mall and increased the proposed Oxford Street Plaza from 1,500 square metres to 2,000 square metres. It lapsed after the rescission motion was lost.
Those changes were not adopted. The Bondi Junction Vision and Master Plan remains the council’s framework for guiding growth in the centre.
Council reaffirmed its commitment to a Bondi Junction Master Plan while considering the NSW Productivity and Equality Commission paper Building More Homes Where the Numbers Stack Up. The discussion linked the plan to housing growth near transport and existing infrastructure, consistent with the Transport Oriented Development program and Low and Mid-Rise reforms.
