Waverley extends Bondi Junction plan exhibition and adds more consultation

Waverley Council has pushed the Bondi Junction Vision and Master Plan exhibition to 9 July 2026 and ordered a video, FAQs, a mayoral session and printed copies at Waverley Library.

Waverley Council has extended the public exhibition of the draft Bondi Junction Vision and Master Plan to 9 July 2026 after its extraordinary meeting at The Boot Factory in Spring Street, Bondi Junction, on 2 June.

The council also voted to add extra information and consultation steps for residents, businesses and property owners. The package passed 10 votes to 2, with Crs Fabiano and Wy Kanak against.

Under the resolution, council must publish a video explanation of the master plan within 10 days, prepare summary documentation and FAQs explaining the planning process, and hold an additional community consultation session hosted by the Mayor. The date, time and location of that session are still to be advised.

It also ordered four colour printed copies of the plan to be made available at Waverley Library, with the documents kept easy to locate and access.

The minutes note that the Bondi Junction Vision was first endorsed for a 28-day public exhibition in October 2025, then unanimously endorsed in December 2025. Council later increased the exhibition for the vision and master plan to five weeks, backed by nine of the 12 councillors, and said the total exhibited period for the master plan would be nine weeks.

The extra material is required to explain more than the draft plan itself. The FAQs will cover the planning process, including State Government processes such as the Housing Delivery Authority and the Low and Mid-Rise Housing Policy.

The meeting also dealt with council procedure. Councillors discontinued the question-and-answer process, while reinstating councillor briefings and re-establishing the Strategic Property Review Committee and the Capital Works Review Committee.

Later in the meeting, council moved into closed session and approved a confidential submission to the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion. The General Manager, Mayor and Deputy Mayor were authorised to finalise it before the submission deadline. The public record says the report was treated as confidential because disclosure would prejudice the maintenance of law.

Bondi Junction remains one of Waverley’s most closely watched planning areas, and the longer exhibition gives residents, businesses and property owners more time to review the draft plan and lodge comments.
