Wanneroo council grilled on Neerabup waste precinct, Tamala Park and FOGO
Residents pressed City of Wanneroo councillors on Tamala Park, the Neerabup Resource Recovery Precinct and groundwater risk, with some questions sent to Mindarie Regional Council or pushed to later approvals.
City of Wanneroo councillors were pressed on waste planning at Tuesday night’s ordinary meeting at the Civic Centre in Wanneroo, with residents asking about the Neerabup Resource Recovery Precinct, Tamala Park and future FOGO processing. The meeting was held at 6pm on 24 February 2026 and drew 135 members of the public and one member of the press.
Questions from Ridgewood, Carramar, Tapping and Merriwa focused on Tamala Park Waste Facility closure dates, whether those dates had changed, who would handle future waste processing, and what the Neerabup proposal would mean for groundwater and local planning. Some answers were referred to Mindarie Regional Council. Others were left to future planning, design, approval and licensing stages.
The minutes also record a deputation from the Carramar and Tapping Residents Association, identified as the NRRP Action Group, on the Neerabup proposal. The precinct appeared in the agenda under AS02-02/26, Neerabup Resource Recovery Precinct Stage 1 - Community Engagement, and AS03-02/26, Advertising Outcomes for a business plan under section 3.59 of the Local Government Act.
The waste discussion follows earlier community attention on Neerabup and Mindarie Regional Council. In this meeting, the city did not settle the big questions on the night. The issues were split between the city, the regional council and later approval processes.
Residents also challenged the city over livestreaming its Annual General Meeting. Administration told the chamber there was a discrepancy between policy and procedure and said internal procedures had been corrected so future AGMs will be livestreamed.
Dog management drew another round of public questioning. People raised dogs on leads, off-leash areas, playgrounds and attack data. The minutes say the issue was treated as a policy matter that needed evidence-based investigation.
Council also received a petition for improved amenities at Arduaine Park. The minutes note 109 signatures.
The meeting also granted leave of absence to four councillors. Cr Bedworth was approved leave from 3 March to 31 March 2026, Cr Wright from 11 May to 9 June 2026, Cr Rowe from 29 June to 3 August 2026 and Cr Berry from 3 August to 9 October 2026.
The unresolved questions on waste, dog rules, meeting access and park facilities remain in play after the meeting.
