Sunshine Coast Council has referred a petition seeking playground upgrades in Palmwoods to the chief executive officer after it was tabled at the council’s ordinary meeting on 18 June at Sunshine Coast City Hall in Maroochydore.

The petition was one of two community petitions received by councillors. The second raised road safety concerns in Moorabinda Street, Buderim, and was also referred to the chief executive officer to determine appropriate action.

The minutes do not detail the upgrades Palmwoods residents want, but the matter is now with council administration for a response or further action.

Councillors also received and noted the May 2026 Financial Performance Report, which includes the May 2026 capital grant funded project report, and the Queensland Audit Office: First Interim Management Report for the financial year ended 30 June 2026.

The council also received and noted the annual review of the delegation to the chief executive officer.

In a confidential item, councillors resolved to acquire land at Maroochy River. The minutes state the details will be released publicly after the transfer is registered.

The meeting also adopted the amended 2025-26 Contracting Plan and the 2026-27 Contracting Plan.

Councillors further approved the 2026-27 National Competition Policy arrangements, including full cost pricing for Sunshine Coast Holiday Parks and waste and resource management. They also decided not to apply the Code of Competitive Conduct to a series of council business activities, including aquatic centres, Caloundra Indoor Stadium, Caloundra Regional Gallery, cemeteries, festivals, multisport complexes and showgrounds, off-street parking, the retail electricity strategy and Sunshine Coast Solar Farm, Sunshine Coast Stadium and Kawana Sports Precinct, and Altitude 9, Venue 114 and community spaces.

The ordinary meeting also included a council recognition item for the Sunshine Coast Heritage Plan 2021-2031, which was named the winner of the Significant Projects 2019-2022 category at the National Trust Queensland Heritage Awards.
