Shoalhaven locks in $563 domestic waste charge, larger-bin and assisted collection fees

Shoalhaven City Council has adopted 2026/27 waste charges, including a $563 standard domestic service, a $970 larger landfill bin option and a $114 extra recycling bin fee.

Shoalhaven households, businesses and some vacant landowners will see new waste charges from 1 July, after Shoalhaven City Council adopted its 2026/27 fees and charges package. The standard domestic waste service is $563 a year, with a 240-litre landfill bin option at $970 and an extra 240-litre recycling bin at $114.

Council also adopted wheel-out wheel-in charges for residents who need help getting bins to the kerb. The assisted collection fee is $318 per bin service where residents cannot move bins themselves, and $18 per bin service where assistance is needed at the residence of an elderly or sick person and a medical certificate is provided.

Business properties and some non-rateable properties used for non-residential purposes are included in the new structure. The adopted schedule includes a first recycling-only service at $173 for a 240-litre bin, additional commercial recycling bins at $114 each, and tiered charges for multiple 240-litre services.

A $122 annual vacant land service availability charge was also approved for certain residential land where domestic waste collection is available but not taken up. It applies to some properties with a boundary on a road served by council waste collection, including lots without a dwelling and homes more than 100 metres from the road boundary where the owner declines the service.

The waste changes sit within a wider budget and fees package that also set 2026/27 rates, water and sewer charges and extra pensioner rebates. For many residents, the most immediate change will be on the rate notice and any bin service they use.

Council’s charging model keeps the standard 120-litre landfill bin and 240-litre recycling bin as the base domestic service. It also includes a lower annual charge of $428 for an 80-litre landfill bin, alongside the higher charges for larger and additional services.

The new charges apply across the Shoalhaven domestic waste collection area from 1 July. That includes households wanting larger bins, businesses seeking recycling-only options and residents who rely on assisted bin presentation.
