Shoalhaven committee backs Nowra renewal strategy for funding push

Shoalhaven’s Land Use Planning & Development Advisory Committee has backed the Nowra Precinct Renewal Strategy as an advocacy focus and recommended it be put to the area’s three local Members of Parliament to seek funding support for implementation.

At its 14 April meeting, the committee recommended that Council accept the strategy report and staff presentation for information, endorse the strategy for future work with project partners Homes NSW and Southern Cross Housing, and present it to local MPs when appropriate.

The recommendation stops short of final Council endorsement, but it signals that Nowra has been identified as a priority precinct for further advocacy and external funding efforts.

For residents, the move points to possible future work around housing renewal and precinct planning in Nowra, if Council later endorses the strategy and funding support is secured. The committee minutes do not set out a funding amount, delivery timetable or specific works.

The same meeting also received a briefing on the Shoalhaven Development Contributions Plan 2026. The committee recommended that Council receive that report and presentation for information.

That plan covers development contributions settings across the Shoalhaven area, which are part of how growth-related infrastructure is planned and funded. The minutes do not record any adoption of the plan at this meeting.

Staff presentations for both items are to be published on Council’s website with the minutes. The next step is for Council to consider the committee’s recommendations on the Nowra strategy and the development contributions plan.
