Randwick Council adopts Junction planning proposal for finalisation
Randwick City Council adopted the revised Randwick Junction Planning Proposal after exhibition and moved it to the next stage, with LEP drafting and mapping work now to follow.
Randwick City Council has adopted the revised Randwick Junction Planning Proposal for finalisation after public exhibition, in a 13-2 vote at its ordinary meeting on 26 May 2026. The council also authorised drafting instructions for amendments to Randwick LEP 2012 and referred the associated mapping work to the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.
The same resolution adopted the revised draft Randwick Junction Development Control Plan and the Randwick Junction Affordable Housing Plan. Council noted that issues raised in submissions during exhibition led to changes to the exhibited plans.
The planning package covers more than documents and maps. Council also directed officers to undertake a public domain study and implementation program for Randwick Junction Town Centre, with work to be informed by transport studies covering traffic, bus and parking arrangements.
The resolution names the kinds of upgrades council wants considered for the precinct. Those include new crossings, footpath widening, street tree planting, landscape measures, smart pole lighting, street furniture and public art.
Council also instructed the General Manager to make typographical, grammatical or formatting changes before finalisation. And it said the Margaret Martin Library must be included as a central civic and community feature in any future planning and design considerations for Randwick Junction Town Centre.
The vote brings the long-running Randwick Junction planning process to the point where the final paperwork can be prepared under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. The adopted plans are intended to shape future development, public domain works and pedestrian and cyclist conditions in the town centre.
The same meeting also carried a separate amendment to require annual progress reporting on the Resilient Randwick Strategy 2026-36, and to add 'toxic chemical leak' to the list of shocks and stresses under Goal 16. But on Randwick Junction, the main task now is drafting, mapping and the public domain study before the planning changes are locked in.
