Randwick residents get 28 days to weigh in on financial plan after climate risk upgrade

Randwick City Council will exhibit its draft Long-Term Financial Plan 2026-36 after changing its climate change likelihood rating from “Possible” to “Almost Certain”.

Randwick residents will have at least 28 days to comment on the council’s draft Long-Term Financial Plan 2026-36, which now rates climate change as “Almost Certain” rather than “Possible”.

Councillors endorsed the plan for public exhibition on 25 August and will consider submissions in a further report before deciding whether to adopt a final version.

The resolution does not specify an immediate rate rise, new charge or individual climate project linked to the revised risk assessment.

The plan’s exhibition follows council approval to carry $90.9 million in unspent 2025-26 project budgets and associated funding into 2026-27. The carryover allows delayed or incomplete capital projects to continue, separately from the final long-term plan.

Other financial commitments include an additional $1.4 million for the Coogee Surf Life Saving Club’s Ground Floor Refurbishment project. About $990,000 of that allocation is grant funding.

The financial plan sits alongside investigations into affordable rental housing at 127-129 Boyce Road and 18 Green Street, Maroubra. Council is also considering the possible acquisition of adjoining land at 133 Boyce Road and 20 Green Street, but no purchase or construction approval was made.

Residents can also comment during the exhibition of a proposed policy and procedure for removing illegally parked vehicles obstructing private driveways. Council will report consultation outcomes before considering the policy further.

The Long-Term Financial Plan exhibition will be followed by a council report on submissions and the final plan.
