Residents have asked for a regular mobile library stop in Nobby, including later operating hours and a possible replacement of the existing Mount Tyson stop twice a month.

A petition calling for a regular mobile library service in Nobby has been formally received at Toowoomba Regional Council's February meeting.

The petition, tabled by Cr Melissa Taylor, contained 117 signatures and asked for the Toowoomba Regional Council Mobile Library Service to add a Nobby stop. It proposed the service could take over the existing Mount Tyson stop on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, and operate later in the day or in the early evening.

The minutes record the petition was submitted by Keri Wilson and said Nobby residents do not currently have access to a local public library. It stated the nearest library is in Clifton and operates Tuesday to Thursday during standard business hours, which the petition said are inaccessible to many families who work outside the community.

For residents, the immediate change is limited to the issue being formally placed before council. If council later acts on the request, Nobby residents could gain more local access to library materials and services without having to travel to another town during business hours.

The petition also argued that a local stop would support children's literacy, adult learning and community connection. Council's resolution at this meeting was to receive the petition, rather than approve a service change.

No timeframe for a further decision on the Nobby request was set out in the minutes. The petition has now been tabled as part of the public record from the 17 February 2026 ordinary meeting.
