A detached dual occupancy has been approved for 2 Mallard Way, Orange, after Orange City Council backed the application unanimously at its Planning & Development Policy Committee meeting on 1 September.

The approval covers DA 124/2026(1) for Lot 188 DP 1302416. The development is subject to the conditions in the Notice of Approval.

Cr S Peterson and Cr F Kinghorne moved the resolution. All councillors present voted for it, with none against. Cr J Whitton was absent.

The approval permits a dual occupancy at the Mallard Way property. The council record does not specify the number of bedrooms, the dwelling designs, construction costs or a construction timetable.

The application was one of three residential development proposals approved at the meeting.

Council also approved DA 134/2026(1) for a detached dual occupancy at 73 Scarborough Street, Orange. That approval covers Lot 159 DP 1302416 and is subject to approval conditions.

A separate application, DA 459/2025(1), was approved for 21 Honeyman Drive and 6 Duncanson Drive. It covers a dwelling house and secondary dwelling, a dual occupancy, a three-lot Torrens title subdivision and group homes, subject to the conditions in the Notice of Approval.

The Mallard Way development must comply with its approval conditions. No start date or further reporting date was specified.

At the same meeting, council deferred DA 152/2026(1) for a place of public worship at 8 Connemara Drive so access to the site could be reviewed. Questions were raised about a Section 88B restriction affecting access via Gorman Road and traffic safety at the Gorman Road and Connemara Drive intersection.

That access matter is separate from the approved Mallard Way application. Any construction at 2 Mallard Way will proceed under the conditions attached to DA 124/2026(1).
