Ipswich City Council has approved reduced sponsorship for two 2026 events at Willowbank Raceway and in Ipswich, backing the Gulf Western Oil Winternationals with $25,000 and the Let’s Go Ipswich Caravan & RV Expo with $4,500 at the Economic and Cultural Development Committee meeting on 19 May.

Willowbank Raceway Incorporated had sought $35,000 in financial support for the Winternationals, which are scheduled for Thursday 4 June to Sunday 7 June 2026. Councillors instead approved $25,000 excluding GST, plus an in-kind Event Impact Report valued at $10,997.50 excluding GST.

The caravan expo request was also cut. Caravan Trade & Industries Association of Queensland, trading as Caravaning Queensland, asked for $15,000 for the event planned for 28 to 30 August 2026. The committee approved $4,500 excluding GST and an in-kind Event Impact Report worth $9,500 excluding GST.

The committee also received and noted its quarterly sponsorship and ticket allocation report for 1 January to 31 March 2026. The report listed cash support of $50,000 for the 2026 Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440, $50,000 for Spartan AUS 3.0 Pty Ltd for the 2026 OCR World Championships and Spartan Trifecta Weekend and the 2027 and 2028 Spartan Trifecta Weekends, and $25,000 for the 2026 Ipswich Cup.

It also noted 35 corporate hospitality tickets for the 2026 CMC Rocks event, listed for advocacy and capacity building purposes. The same report confirmed event impact study support for the 2026 Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 at Queensland Raceway.

The meeting also received the April 2026 Nicholas Street Precinct Redevelopment Progress Report and noted its contents. The report covered the leasing program and the precinct’s planning, development, delivery and ongoing management. Its attachments were confidential.

The committee did not debate that precinct report in public detail. It was simply received and noted, alongside the sponsorship items and quarterly allocation report.

The sponsorship decisions continue council support for major visitor events while stopping short of the full cash amounts requested. They also keep attention on Nicholas Street Precinct leasing and redevelopment.

For Ipswich businesses and event operators, the minutes show where council directed funding in the March quarter and which events received impact study support and hospitality ticket allocations.
