Ipswich City Council noted Contract 5326 for embankment stabilisation works on Marie Street, Goodna, reached $2,243,108.89 ex-GST after contingency spending hit $1,098,225.39 ex-GST.
Ipswich City Council has noted a major cost overrun on embankment stabilisation works at Marie Street, Goodna, after Contract 5326 climbed to $2,243,108.89 ex-GST. The council dealt with the issue at its ordinary meeting on 28 May 2026.
The minutes say the contract began at $1,144,883.50 ex-GST, with an approved contingency of $114,488.35 ex-GST. Council resolved to receive and note that the approved contingency had been exceeded and delegated contractual action to the chief executive officer.
That action was recorded alongside a broader set of committee recommendations covering infrastructure, finance, easements, fees and charges, climate membership, event sponsorships and the new corporate plan.
In the same meeting, council issued a notice to HB Qld Pty Ltd and Canberra Estate Consortium No 36 Pty Ltd that the offset amount for works associated with Collingwood Drive and Eagle Street is $11,451,973.08. The matter had already featured in committee business on 19 May.
Council also amended wording in the proposed 2026-2027 fees and charges so residential temporary access to council-controlled land includes the word vehicle. The listed examples are a vehicle, trailer, boat, caravan or similar, plus delivery of home or yard maintenance materials and domestic construction equipment such as a bobcat or excavator.
The new fees and charges take effect from 1 July 2026, the same date the Corporate Plan 2026-2031 is due to replace the iFuture Corporate Plan 2021-2026. Council also approved three more years of membership in the South East Queensland Climate Resilient Alliance at a total cost of $66,242 from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2029.
Elsewhere, councillors approved a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to conviction or a finding of guilt over the desecration and damage of the Ebbw Vale Memorial Honour Stone. The resolution gives the chief executive officer powers to administer the reward process with Queensland Police Service and/or Crime Stoppers.
