Three Marrickville streets to close for up to 11 AFLW matches at Henson Park
Woodland, Holmesdale and Centennial streets will close on listed match days from 13 September through November 2026, subject to transport approvals and advance notice.
Residents and businesses around Henson Park in Marrickville will face temporary full closures of three streets for up to 11 AFLW matches from 13 September through November 2026.
Woodland Street, Holmesdale Street and Centennial Street will close on listed match days under a proposal supported by the Inner West Local Transport Forum. AFL NSW/ACT applied for the arrangements.
The closures still require a Road Occupancy Licence and Transport for New South Wales concurrence, along with the conditions that apply to the event approvals. AFL NSW/ACT must obtain specific written concurrence from Transport for NSW for the Centennial Street closure.
Residents and businesses in the affected area must receive written notice at least seven days before each closure. Organisers must make reasonable provision for access and install signs advising road users about the restrictions.
The match-day closures will change local access and traffic movements around Henson Park. People travelling through the area should allow for changed arrangements around Woodland, Holmesdale and Centennial streets, although individual match dates and traffic routes were not listed in the available information.
Transport for NSW is represented on the Local Transport Forum, alongside council officers, Transit Systems and the Inner West Bicycle Coalition. The forum supported the Henson Park proposal while requiring the transport approvals and notification arrangements before the closures proceed.
The forum also supported temporary full closures for the Marrickville Music Festival on Sunday 11 October 2026. That separate event will affect Marrickville Road, Central Lane, Seymour Lane, Garners Lane and short sections of Silver Street, Garners Avenue, Gladstone Street and Frampton Avenue.
The festival closures are separate from the AFLW arrangements. They are subject to standard Council conditions, including road-occupancy approval, written notice to affected residents and businesses at least seven days beforehand, reasonable provision for access and a minimum four-metre clear passage for emergency vehicles.
