The City of Hobart has adopted its 2026-27 Schedule of Fees and Charges, with amended planning application fees for change of use to visitor accommodation set at $250 for permitted applications and $5,000 for discretionary applications.

The resolution was carried at the council’s 27 April meeting at 4.00pm. It sat within a larger open agenda that also included a new shared micromobility tender, City Hall activation, a South Hobart petition and a TasWater lease amendment for land at Cornelian Bay Point.

On the fees item, councillors backed the officer recommendation and adopted the schedule without any separate debate recorded in the minutes. The change applies to visitor accommodation applications only, with the fee split now tied to whether an application is permitted or discretionary.

The same meeting also saw council identify the area centred on City Hall, Theatre Royal/Hedberg, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Federation Concert Hall and, potentially, Council Centre, Town Hall and Civic Square/Mawsons Place as a future cultural precinct. Council also agreed to work with the State Government, the Theatre Royal board, the University of Tasmania, TMAG and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra on a precinct proposal and business case.

Elsewhere in the chamber, councillors received and noted the petition titled Keep Green Spaces in South Hobart Shared for all Community Members and resolved to take no further action. Lead petitioners are to be advised of the information in the report.

Council also approved an amendment to TasWater’s 15 November 2024 lease for land at Cornelian Bay Point. The change allows importation of an additional 15,000 cubic metres of fill, including low-level contaminated soil and clean fill.

The new fees and charges schedule applies for the 2026-27 financial year.
