The City of Gold Coast has refused a petition seeking reconsideration of a proposed footpath along Barrier Reef Drive in Mermaid Waters, according to unconfirmed minutes from the Transport and Infrastructure Committee meeting on 28 April.

The committee recommended that council "does not support the premise of the petition" and noted the proposed footpath between Halborne Drive and Rio Vista Boulevard remains within the City's 10 year capital investment program, subject to future budget consideration.

That means the project has not been dropped, but it also has not been funded for construction through this decision.

The minutes state the lead petitioner will be advised of council's decision and asked to inform the other petitioners accordingly.

The item was one of two Mermaid Waters footpath petition responses considered at the meeting. In a separate decision, the committee also did not support a petition asking council to stop works in Splice Street, noting that footpath is now complete.

The Transport and Infrastructure Committee's recommendations appear in unconfirmed public minutes and still form part of the recorded council decision-making process from the meeting.
