Gold Coast backs Greenheart assessment and drops Pearson Road land buy-up
The City of Gold Coast committee approved Greenheart’s state assessment and consultation, and ended land acquisitions for the Pearson Road Stage 3 upgrade in Yatala.
The City of Gold Coast’s Transport and Infrastructure Committee met at the council chambers in Surfers Paradise on 26 May 2026 and backed Greenheart’s environmental assessment and consultation steps, while also discontinuing land acquisitions for the Pearson Road Stage 3 upgrade in Yatala.
On Greenheart, councillors endorsed the Local Government Infrastructure Designation Environmental Assessment Report for the proposed 11 lots linked to the project. They approved its submission to the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning so the state assessment process can begin, and they signed off on the consultation strategy and consultation period in the Community Engagement Plan.
The committee also supported the Gold Coast Surf Infrastructure Master Plan. It endorsed the plan and a public-facing summary document for promotion through the City’s website and other channels.
Any proposed projects identified through the surf master plan are to come back to council individually at Gate 1 of the P3M framework for funding and endorsement.
Councillors also noted progress on the Our Coastal Lifestyle Strategy. They were told a further report will be brought to council on the Storm Erosion Response Plan, which will guide beach restoration after future large-scale weather events and mass erosion.
A separate planning synopsis for Napper Road, Arundel and Parkwood was also noted.
In closed session, the committee approved discontinuing land acquisitions for the Stage 3 upgrade of Pearson Road, Yatala. The recommendation authorises the chief executive officer, or delegate, to withdraw the five land resumption applications currently with the Minister for Natural Resources and to notify affected property owners and vested parties under section 16 of the Acquisition of Land Act 1967.
The committee also noted a future report will return to the Transport and Infrastructure Committee with the upgrade strategy for the Pearson Road corridor.
The meeting opened at 1.06pm and closed at 3.26pm.
