Gold Coast committee backs Invest Gold Coast trade and investment strategy for 2026 to 2031
The Economy, Tourism and Events Committee has recommended Council endorse Invest Gold Coast Pty Ltd’s new five-year trade and investment strategy, while folding related review work into a later interim review.
Gold Coast councillors have backed a new trade and investment strategy for Invest Gold Coast Pty Ltd, recommending the city formally endorse the plan for 2026 to 2031.
At the City of Gold Coast’s Economy, Tourism and Events Committee meeting on 5 February, the committee unanimously recommended Council endorse the Trade and Investment Strategy 2026-2031. The same recommendation noted that Invest Gold Coast’s Strategic Review and Key Performance Indicators Framework will be incorporated into a Controlled Entity Interim Review and returned to Council for consideration.
The committee also considered a separate update on Invest Gold Coast’s Priority Investment Projects in closed session. In open session, councillors recommended that the report and attachments remain confidential under the Local Government Act 2009 unless the chief executive officer decides otherwise, and that the update be noted.
For residents and businesses, the clearest immediate change is that the city is moving ahead with a five-year strategy to guide trade and investment activity through Invest Gold Coast. The minutes do not detail the strategy’s contents, but they show the committee has recommended a formal endorsement as part of the city’s economic development work.
Public detail on the priority investment projects will remain limited for now. The committee cited negotiations relating to a commercial matter involving the local government as the basis for discussing that item in closed session.
The next step is for full Council to consider the committee’s recommendation to endorse the strategy. Separate work on Invest Gold Coast’s Strategic Review and KPI framework is also due to come back to Council through the Controlled Entity Interim Review.
The committee also noted its forward planning schedule at the same meeting.
