Georges River advances Moore Park land reclassification

Georges River Council has recommended reclassifying part of Moore Park at 33 Lobb Crescent, Beverley Park from community land to operational land and sending the proposal to the state department for finalisation and gazettal.

Georges River Council has backed a planning change for part of Moore Park at 33 Lobb Crescent, Beverley Park, with the Environment and Planning Committee recommending the northwestern portion of the park be reclassified from community land to operational land at its meeting on 9 March.

The committee recommended adopting amended Planning Proposal PP2024/0006, which would amend the Georges River Local Environmental Plan 2021 by moving the land into Schedule 4 Part 2. It also recommended that the amended proposal be forwarded to the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure for finalisation and gazettal under section 3.36 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

The recommendation also asks that council note submissions received during public exhibition and the outcomes of a public hearing on the proposal. It says all people who made a submission should be told of council’s decision.

The same meeting also recommended forwarding Planning Proposal No. 2026/0002 for the Moomba to Sydney Ethane Pipeline Hazard Analysis to the department for a Gateway Determination. If the Gateway is approved, the proposal will be publicly exhibited and residents will have a chance to make submissions.

Committee members also recommended adopting the draft Asbestos Management Policy 2026 after public exhibition. They endorsed the Georges River Wildlife Protection Area Policy 2025 and allowed for minor administrative changes, with future review reporting to include data on documented breaches.

The committee also noted progress towards Georges River Council’s 40 per cent tree canopy target by 2038. It backed consideration of a future $120,000 budget bid from the Tree Preservation Reserve for an LGA-wide tree planting strategy and costing schedule, and recommended continued advocacy to the NSW Government for stronger tree protection through state legislation.

A separate item noted the quarterly Development and Building Team metrics report for October to December 2025.

The committee meeting closed at 7.41pm.

For Beverley Park residents, the proposal changes the planning status of part of council-owned park land. The minutes also record a unanimous vote on the Moore Park item and a 12-1 vote on the pipeline proposal.
