Residents and businesses across the Georges River local government area will have at least 28 days to comment on proposed future directions for commercial centres under a committee recommendation backed unanimously on Monday.

The Environment and Planning Committee recommended endorsing the draft Georges River Commercial Centres Strategy - Part 2 Future Directions for public exhibition. The recommendation will go to Georges River Council for consideration.

The Director Environment and Planning would be authorised to make minor editorial amendments before the exhibition begins. A further report on submissions would then be provided to Council.

The exhibition start date has not been specified. The material considered by the committee also does not identify the individual commercial centres covered, proposed land-use changes or other detailed directions.

The exhibition will give residents and businesses a formal opportunity to comment before the strategy is considered further.

The recommendation was moved by Councillors Christina Jamieson and Natalie Mort and carried unanimously. Those recorded as voting for it included Mayor Elise Borg, Chair Matthew Allison, Councillors Jamieson, Mort and Ben Wang, along with the other committee members present.

The committee separately recommended public exhibition of the Draft Kogarah Strategic Centre Master Plan and associated studies for a minimum of 28 days. A later report would outline submissions received and recommend any amendments to that plan.

The committee also recommended adopting the Jubilee Stadium Precinct Master Plan and Plan of Management, subject to Council consideration and NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Crown Lands consent. If the new plan commences, it would revoke the existing Kogarah Park Community Land Plan of Management (2005).

It recommended preparing a Georges River Active Transport Plan focused on priority corridors, missing links, connections to schools, open spaces and other key destinations, and staged implementation and funding. Staff were authorised to seek grants, or seek up to $150,000 in internal funding through a 2027 quarterly review if grants are unavailable.
