Georges River Council's Community and Culture Committee unanimously recommended adopting the Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2026-2030 when it met at the Dragon Room, Georges River Civic Centre, Hurstville, on Tuesday, 9 June 2026. The plan is due to go to the NSW Department of Communities and Justice by 30 June 2026.

The committee's motion asked Council to receive and note the findings of the public exhibition of the draft plan, adopt the draft DIAP, and approve it for submission by the end-of-month deadline. The minutes do not detail the submissions made during exhibition.

Councillors also backed a separate Sports Advisory Committee report, recommending that Council adopt items SAC007-26 to SAC011-26. Those items covered feedback from a sports workshop on Lux Lighting, a sport and community facilities update, community impact consultation, a sporting infrastructure capital works update and an update on the Carss Park Aquatic Facility.

The Carss Park Aquatic Facility was one of the subjects of the sports update. The Lux Lighting item noted that a future report on the Lux Lighting Prioritisation Matrix and associated methodology would go to the Assets and Infrastructure Committee.

The meeting also flagged pressure on the Event Grant Program. The committee noted increasing demand from community organisations for funding, along with upcoming refinements to the Event Grant guidelines and community engagement to inform event organisers of the changes.

For residents with disability, carers and advocacy groups, the disability plan is the clearest indication in these minutes of the council's next three years of inclusion planning. The committee did not spell out the plan's full actions in the excerpt, but it recommended the draft for adoption and submission to state authorities.

Councillor Gao's apology was accepted and leave of absence granted. No disclosures of interest were declared. The meeting opened at 6.42pm and closed at 6.55pm.
