Georges River Council has deferred the Gifford Park Sporting and Public Amenity community engagement item to a future Ordinary Council Meeting, while the Assets and Infrastructure Committee voted 9-6 not to proceed with consultation on a proposed footpath in East Street, Blakehurst.

The committee met on 9 June 2026 at the Georges River Civic Centre in Hurstville. The East Street proposal covered a new footpath on the eastern side of East Street between Oberon Street and Orana Crescent.

Councillor Natalie Mort chaired the meeting. Councillors first rejected an amendment that would have sent the Blakehurst footpath proposal out for consultation, then carried the substantive motion not to proceed with consultation at this stage.

The motion also asks for a future report on prioritising new footpaths across the Georges River LGA, including the proposed program of works over the next four years.

The committee also noted a proposed change in scope and required budget adjustment for the Jubilee Stadium - Eastern Toilet Block Replacement project. It supported updating the 4-year Capital Works Program for the 2026-27 financial year.

Hogben Park basketball court is also due to get lighting. The committee endorsed installing lights for recreational purposes only after noting the results of the September 2025 community consultation.

Council also recommended adoption of the draft Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Operations Policy after noting the community consultation results. It also endorsed the 2026/27 program of works for the Playspace Strategy Implementation budget allocation.

The June 2026 capital projects update was received and noted. No further detail on the Gifford Park Sporting and Public Amenity item was included in the minutes beyond the deferral.

For Blakehurst residents, there will be no community consultation on the East Street footpath proposal at this stage. A wider footpath prioritisation report is still due back to council later.
