Georges River Council backs Penshurst town centre plan for exhibition
Georges River Council’s Assets and Infrastructure Committee recommended the Draft Penshurst Town Centre Public Domain Plan go on public exhibition, alongside flood, parking and park decisions across the local government area.
Georges River Council’s Assets and Infrastructure Committee on 13 April recommended the Draft Penshurst Town Centre Public Domain Plan go on public exhibition and community consultation, with the vote carried unanimously.
The plan was recommended to go out for broader stakeholder and community endorsement, giving Penshurst residents and businesses a formal chance to comment on proposed public space changes in the town centre.
The committee also backed a transport change in Kogarah, recommending 6 metres of existing time-restricted parking on the eastern side of Railway Parade be converted into an accessible parking zone.
In the same transport block, the committee adopted Local Transport Forum recommendations including ‘No Stopping’ restrictions at Sans Souci Park car park and updated terms of reference for the forum.
Flood management was another major item. The committee received and noted the Blakehurst and Kogarah Bay Wards Overland Flow Flood Study, and supported a Floodplain Risk Management Committee recommendation to adopt the final draft study, allow minor corrections, add required legal notation to 10.7 Planning Certificates for identified properties and publish the study on Council’s website.
Mayor Elise Borg and Cr Natalie Mort both declared pecuniary interests in the flood study item and left the chamber during its consideration.
The flood study affects properties in Blakehurst and Kogarah Bay, where flood information is to be formally recorded on planning certificates.
The committee also recommended Council endorse the Draft Woodville Park Spatial Framework after noting the community engagement outcomes.
At Todd Park, councillors backed two concept options for the Sporting Facility Reconstruction project. One option is for four changerooms and public amenity only. The other adds a gym primarily for the use of, and funded by, St George District Rugby League Football Club.
Elsewhere, the committee recommended approval of increased non-budgeted capital expenditure for The Green Sporting Amenity construction and the Endeavour Street Seawall Reconstruction design.
