Gosford wins $985,000 indoor stadium as Toukley funding falls to $100,000
Central Coast Council approved a three-year, Federal Infrastructure grant-funded stadium for Gosford, using a budget offset that cuts the Toukley community facilities allocation by $400,000.
Gosford will receive a $985,000 indoor sports stadium, while funding for Toukley’s Community Facilities Redevelopment Project falls from $500,000 to $100,000 under Central Coast Council’s 2026-27 Capital Program.
The Gosford City Indoor Sports Stadium is funded through a Federal Infrastructure grant and will be delivered over three years. The approval establishes a capital project, but does not award a construction contract or identify a builder, supplier or tender process.
Councillors rejected an amendment that sought a different budget offset and stronger protection for the Toukley project. The amendment also proposed making Toukley a high-level funding priority, including ahead of the 2028 Federal Election, and asking for an October report on alternative funding options.
Cr Castles and Cr MacGregor moved the amendment. It was defeated, with seven councillors voting for it and eight against. The original stadium proposal then passed, with nine councillors voting for approval and six against.
The approved offset removes $400,000 from Toukley’s current allocation. The council did not delay the Gosford project while alternative offsets were considered.
For sporting organisations, contractors and local suppliers, the project creates a new three-year capital program in Gosford. The council’s approval covers the project’s inclusion in the program, not procurement or construction delivery arrangements.
The Toukley redevelopment remains a future funding priority, but the approved allocation is $100,000 rather than the previously budgeted $500,000. The stadium is planned to commence in 2026-27.
