Burwood locks in 2026-27 rates, fees and spending plan
Burwood Council adopted next year’s budget, revenue policy and fees after public exhibition, and also approved a single-stage FOGO rollout for single-unit homes across the LGA.
Burwood ratepayers, residents and local businesses now have the council’s 2026-27 spending and fee settings locked in, with councillors adopting the Delivery Program 2025-2029 (Year 2), Operational Plan 2026-2027, Draft Budget 2026-2027, Draft Statement of Revenue Policy 2026-2027, updated Long-Term Financial Plan and Draft Schedule of Fees and Charges 2026-2027.
The documents had been on public exhibition before the vote.
Councillors also confirmed annual fees at the maximum permissible levels for 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027: $52,520 for the Mayor and $24,080 for councillors.
The budget item sat alongside approval for a single-stage Food Organics and Garden Organics collection rollout for single-unit dwellings across Burwood during 2026/27. The service will include weekly food and garden organics collections, along with kitchen caddies, compostable liners and a community education campaign.
Council has asked for a further report within 12 months of the rollout starting, covering implementation outcomes, community participation, contamination and food diversion rates, community feedback and any recommended service improvements.
It also asked staff to explore discounted fees and charges for heritage conservation works and to report back on ways to reduce financial barriers for residents.
The fee review could affect homeowners trying to maintain or restore heritage-listed homes and conservation-area properties.
The broader package also gives Council its spending priorities, revenue policy and fee schedule for the year ahead.
